Elizabeth A. Kitchen-Troop
I currently practice law in Washtenaw County, Michigan with Kline Legal Group, PLC, where I handle primary family law matters (divorce, custody, separate maintenance, paternity, child support, etc). While Washtenaw County is where the majority of my cases are handled, I also have experience in Jackson, Livingston, Ingham, Monroe, Oakland and Macomb counties as well. In 2009, I was elected by my peers to serve on the Family Law Council for the State Bar of Michigan. I have also been quite active on a local level, as a member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association (currently serving as Secretary) and as a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (currently serving as President of the Washtenaw County Region). In 2011 & 2012, I was selected as a "Rising Star in Family Law" by Super Lawyers Magazine.
From 2006 through 2009, I served as co-chair of the Family Law Section of Washtenaw County, hosting monthly luncheon meetings and annual seminars on a variety of topics. In 2007, my co-chair and I organized and hosted a seminar entitled, “Clients in Crisis: Dealing with Difficult Clients”. Our 2008 seminar, “Same Gender Issues in Michigan Law”, featured keynote speaker Justice Mary Kelly of the Michigan Supreme Court. I am also a volunteer at the Women’s Center of Washtenaw County, counseling women as they navigate the often overwhelming and intimidating process of divorce, particularly those cases which may involve custody issues and/or domestic violence issues. As my experience and involvement shows, Family Law is my true passion. I come by my love of the law naturally—my father, Leonard Kitchen, practiced law in Dexter, Michigan for almost 40 years.
In addition to family law, I also specialize in plaintiff’s auto negligence litigation and driver’s license restoration. For those areas of the law that I do not practice, I am always happy to provide referrals to capable local attorneys.
